NARRATIVE
Good ground. Weather: Hot, sunny. Apparently, ‘Min’ is an Egyptian fertility goddess.
Hard work in the field. Fifty partnership for the 2nd wicket, 70 partnership for the 3rd. Richard Heller bowled heroically, and Felix Middleton flung himself around in the field. Later bowlers Bill Bush and James Rivington improbably picked up four wickets in the final dash for runs, as the score slipped from 182 for 4 to 190 for 8. Jeremy Walker pulled off the catch of the season — right-handed at silly mid-off, off a fierce drive from a Rivington full toss. But Min eased past the double century, to set the Erratics a difficult target.
From the outset, the Erratics were never on course to chase. The first two partnerships were steadily defensive, and saw the fifty up. James in particular played the boring innings that only he can. Finally even he was embarrassed into playing some more aggressive shots, and duly holed out. The later order collapsed alarmingly, to give Min some hope of ending the tedium with a win. But Felix Meller played twelve forward defensive strokes to stave off defeat.
