NARRATIVE
In principle a ten-a-side match, but see below.
The Erratics innings starts with Chris Dunabin getting himself run out (0 for 1). Robert Waller is out in the 2nd over (1 for 2). Brian Berrigan and David Miliband bat with uncharacteristic caution to rebuild the innings, until David is out in the 15th over (19 for 3). Brian then has to watch in horror as there is carnage at the other end: Alex Goodman (18th over, 20 for 4); Peter Stone (19th over, 21 for 5); Mike Long (same over, 21 for 6); Michael Evans (21st over, 23 for 7). Jeremy Walker plays some shots and Brian hits his first boundary, but it is all too brief and Jeremy succumbs (23rd over, 33 for 8). Brian has largely been a spectator, and has only just got into double figures. He now launches a desperate assault, single-handedly putting on the best partnership of the innings before perishing in the 27th over (54 for 9). Because the score is so low, one of the Fernhurst team (T Watchous) is sent in to bat for the Erratics not that it does much good, because Richard Heller is out to the first ball of the next over. Fernhurst have used just two bowlers: Cobbold (14-6-18-6) and Ralph (13.1-4-29-3).
Fernhurst find batting difficult too, and they score painfully slowly. Brian comes on and takes a wicket with his second delivery, but Fernhurst remain dogged in their resistance. The introduction of Richard ups the tempo: he takes two wickets, but is hit for a six. Brian takes another wicket but concedes a couple of boundaries. Richard takes two more wickets as Fernhurst get close to the target. But the No. 7 is now going for it and latches on to Chriss bowling to see his side home.
