London Erratics v V&A
at Stonor

Much, much better (though a win would have been nice)

The V&A won the toss and elected to field.
A century partnership for the first wicket represented a most welcome improvement on recent Erratics batting performances. Both John Truscott and Nasir Khawaja played with great skill and were still there at lunch. When Nasir was second out with the score just short of 150, the team could be pleased with the sound platform that the openers had established.
The Erratics batting now reverted to type. Chris Dunabin hung around for a bit, but debutant Matthew Eltringham was unlucky to pull his first ball straight to midwicket. The bickering between James Rivington and Michael Evans about the running between the wickets gave the fielders some amusement. But the quick departures of Michael, Bill Bush and John Booth (first ball) gave James a nasty sense of déjà vu.
However, Jeremy Walker was in bullish mood and deposited two trademark sixes back over the bowler’s head into the hayfield beyond — taking the Erratics to a morale-boosting total above 200.

As last year, the V&A decision to bat second had been prompted by the need of players to leave early. The No. 2 thrashed the opening Erratics bowling, scoring 51 (8 fours, 1 six) out of 62, before retiring.
The V&A continued to score freely, until the two Johns came on to bowl and applied the screws. John T struck first, removing the other opener. Then the capture of four wickets for 13 runs swung the balance of the game decisively, and the Erratics were fired with a determination to prise out the last few batsmen.
When James toppled forward and sideways to get his fingers under the ball at midwicket, the team acclaimed both an oscar nomination catch and the fact that there were six overs left to take the winning wicket. Alas, the V&A pair proved to be limpets — but the Erratics could be pleased with an excellent team performance.
