NARRATIVE
Thanks to the captain’s superb communication skills, neither of the wicket keepers who were available to play turned up. The match ended up ten-a-side. Weather: murky and damp; the whole of the Erratics innings was played in the rain.
The South Wraxall innings made a very brisk start, with a partnership of 68 for the second wicket. The No. 3 bat was unfortunately dropped twice on his way to 53. There was a pleasing debut spell of nicely flighted spin from Arvind Sivaramakrishnan, which deserved better fortune. But the highlight was the return of Brian Berrigan as bowler; in his first performance for three months, he put the ball right on the spot immediately (so depressing for some of us!), and hampered South Wraxall’s final assault.
The first three Erratics wickets fell for 15. There was then a marvellous partnership of 101 between Brian and Peter Andrews, which put the innings right back on course for victory. However, the later order proved too fragile to sustain the chase. The innings closed with Michael Evans and Felix Meller falling to successive deliveries.
Scorer: Robert Waller. Nice to see the return of such scorebook gems as ‘Toss won by A. Tosser’.
