Won by 4 wickets
NARRATIVE
The Withered Lilies won the toss, but were without their wicket keeper or opening bowler at the start, so had no choice but to bat. In fact, the opening bowler (also their best bat) never showed up, so the Withered Lilies, who were in any case going to be one man short, ended up playing with only nine. Weather: warm and mostly sunny.
The Withered Lilies scoring was slow, partly because of some fine bowling, partly because they seemed keener to preserve wickets than to have a go. With tea approaching, the Erratics provided some declaration bowling — but, amid much grumbling from the fielding side, the declaration was postponed until the fall of the fifth wicket at about 5.15 pm.
That the target was reached so comfortably was largely due to Tony Poulter, playing his first match for the Erratics since 1996; he combined style and strength, sharing a partnership of 61 with David Miliband. With the Lilies turning to their occasional bowlers, David was unlucky to be trapped lbw by a ball that bounced four times. Hywel Roberts hit the winning boundary.
