NARRATIVE
Tar Barrow lent the Erratics a spare player — Patrick O’Sullivan — to make it twelve a side. Weather: warmish, not much sun.
Tar Barrow started strongly, reaching 75 for 1. Felix Meller had early problems with his line. With the match ball lost in the long grass beyond the boundary, the Erratics bowled with a reserve ball — it proved much to Richard Heller’s liking, and Tar Barrow were suddenly 95 for 5. With the match ball found again, the Tar Barrow innings picked up — almost entirely through the efforts of their No. 5, who scored a powerful 82. Patrick O’Sullivan produced a lively spell that limited the scoring, and then Felix and Richard returned for second spells that ended the innings. Always sharp behind the stumps, Nasir Khawaja held two catches, the first via Brian Berrigan at slip; these scalps took Nasir ahead of James Rivington as the record catch-taker.
Brian Berrigan and John Truscott batted carefully for the first twelve overs, before launching a devastating assault. When John was finally out, in the 25th over, the score was 125. Nasir Khawaja fell later that same over, unlucky to be the latest victim of Chris Dunabin’s umpiring. Bill Bush weighed in joyfully, before succumbing to the red mist when the scores were level. Brian (who was last out 205 runs ago!) capped a perfect batting display with the winning boundary.
