Annoying late start. An Erratics first: 12 Erratics arrived and ready to play before a single member of the oppo even showed up. Game began at 12.20. Oppo had to bat — even at 12.20 there were only 5 of them.
Despite astute captaincy (by several members of the side), V&A managed to post 192 for 7. Seven bowlers were used — Miliband, Booth, Heller and Middleton being the pick. Fabulous catch by Middleton to dismiss extremely threatening V&A batting star.
In chasing we were hampered by the top order finding it difficult to push the pace along, with impatience accounting for Neal (10), Walker (16), Miliband (1) in particular. Top score 41 by Khawaja, but he too found scoring hard work. Chase was abandoned at fall of seventh wicket (Bush, 12 quick and stylish runs), with 60 runs still needed off last eight overs. Instructions for solid defence were then followed by Dunabin (2 balls, 0) and Parsley (skied to square leg, first ball 0). Middleton and Heller then held out for remaining seven overs in scenes of unbearable tension. Heller being dropped off a hard struck drive and absurd appealing by the tight-packed fielding side were the only blemishes on an enthralling finish.
