A 15-overs knock-out tournament involving four teams. In the first match, the home team beat Great Houghton to book their place in the final.
Thanks to late drop-outs, the Erratics team that travelled to Evenley was a shadow of the previous year’s championship-winning side. Captain Scott’s won the toss and elected to field.
The Captain Scott XI were not at all what one had read about — instead they seemed mainly to be mouthy South Africans, constantly making duck noises. But on an unpredictable pitch their bowling was much too lively for the Erratics batting (Þ) . Jeremy Walker demonstrated some resistance (Þ) , before he was run out at the non-striker’s end (for which he said James Rivington was responsible).
When the seventh wicket fell (Þ) , an Evenley loan batsman came in — and he quickly put the Erratics’ puny efforts into context by smashing the ball around in the last three overs. Matthew Eltringham chipped in as well (Þ) , only to be run out assaying a second off the last ball of the innings.

The Evenley team generously provided subs to give the Erratics eleven in the field.
When Matthew E satisfyingly took the wicket of the Scott’s captain in the first over, the Erratics wondered whether they could repeat last year’s shock victories. A second wicket in his next over kept these faint hopes alive.
But with the Scott XI comfortably scoring at six an over, there weren’t enough runs to play with. Matthew Neal took a stinging catch at mid-on, and Timothy Green bowled tidily. But the target was reached with plenty of time to spare.
And so the Erratics had to play off for third place against Great Houghton.
